The photo shows a crane and workmen who are lowering and guiding the cable into an open trench in the foreground. A marine service store can be seen at the left side of the photo along with a large number of Michigan Bell Telephone Company officials who are wearing hardhats. A Dunbar & Sullivan Dredging Company barge with a crane and cable reel are visible at the edge of the shoreline in the right background. The Detroit River and Grosse Ile shoreline can be seen in the far background.
