Joe Louis Arena Construction Area

Four black and white photographs, mounted on board, comprising a panoramic view of the construction of Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. View looks generally east to south from the area of Congress Street, overlooking the John C. Lodge Freeway and exit ramps to Cobo Hall and Larned St. The skyline of downtown is included in the photo in the distance, as is Cobo Hall, and the Windsor shore directly across from Joe Louis. The stern of one of the Bob-Lo Island steamers is on the river, as is a downbound Bradley Fleet (U.S. Steel) vessel, perhaps a Maritimer. Construction equipment is in the foreground. Dated 9/1979.
