Black and white photographic print of a diorama depicting Cadillac receiving charter from Louis XIV in 1700; the diorama was displayed in window number 1, at The J.L. Hudson Company department store, in 1951. Signage in the right foreground of the window reads, "Detroit Historama, Cadillac receiving charter or grant from Louis XIV (about 1700), Cadillac, as commandant at Mackinac, was afforded opportunity of learning of the latent advantages of the country along the Strait de Detroit. He felt that a southerly fort should be established as fortification against the English. His enthusiasm was shared by the Governor of Canada, Frontenac. The latter wrote Count Pontchartrain in France and with his blessing proceeded to plan a post and fort." Also, signage in the window's central foreground reads, "You are cordially invited to see 'Detroit Historama's display of many exhibits and merchandise of 250 years, July 23 through August 2, 12th Floor Auditorium, No Admission Charge." The photographic sequence number is printed on the bottom of the recto, "25246-1x."
