Print, Photographic

Sepia-toned photo of the hull of the 40' commuter cruiser manufactured by Gar Wood Incorporated being prepared for testing after been lowered into the water. A man on board the boat fuels it up using a hose from the dock, as a row of men stand by. The dock is beneath a wooden walk way outside the door of a brick factory building. The photo has been heavily retouched to accent many of the image's lines. A typewritten caption pasted on the verso on Advertisers Incorporated stationery reads:

Gar Wood Cruiser Hull in Basin Just After Launching
Immediate after lowering the first forty foot cruiser hull which is now a regular part of the line of Gar Wood Incorporated boats, trial tests were held on the St. Clair River at the company's Marysville plant. Commodore Wood was the first to pilot the new creation. Note that the cabin had not been built or the permanent decking put in place when the hull was launched.
