Black and white photo of the former Fritz Goebel home at 1480 Seminole Street in Indian Village, as taken from the street. A typewritten description previously tape to the verso read:
1480 Seminole
The residence at 1480 Seminole was built in 1912 for Fritz Goebel, Vice President and Superintendant [sic] of the Goebel Brewing Company, and son of Augustus Goebel, Sr., its founder. Designed by the well-known Detroit firm of Chittenden & Kotting, the house is an unusual example of a style popular in northern Europe at about the same time.
In massing, the house reflects the German Baroque in a tall, boxy building surmounted by a high double-hip roof covered in flat red tile. There is no Baroque decoration, however, and the half-timbering of the entrance pavilion reflects the interest in medieval examples, while the Pewabic tile on either side of the door signals the Arts and Crafts movement. The bay window on the south is a 1918 addition; the elevator housing atop the roof was added as well.
