"2969 Locking Through--The deep whistles of freighters sound day and night as the greatest commerce in the world moves through the Soo canal at Sault Ste. Marie. The locks are a "must" for all vacation travelers in Michigan's upper peninsula. Giant freighters move ore, grain and general cargo from the blue-rimmed harbors of Lake Superior to the industrial cities of the lower lakes and through the St. Lawrence Seaway to foreign ports--Michigan Tourist Council Photo," was typewritten on a caption previously taped to the verso, beneath the handwritten note, "April 1965." "Michigan Tourist Council, Credit Line Appreciated, Negative # 2969, Michigan Tourist Council, Lansing 26, Michigan," is stamped on the verso.
