Black and white photo of the Soo Locks, during the expansion of the Poe Lock taken from the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge facing northeast. An excursion boat, loaded with passengers heads west through the North Canal. Cranes and other construction equipment are visible to the immediate right of the bridge, as well as on the site of the Poe Lock. "Sault Ste. Marie--This is the way the Soo Locks look from the new International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie. To the right of center are the four American locks. The lock second from the right is the Poe which is being reconstructed. The locks handle more tonnage each year than the Panama and Suez canals combined," is typewritten on a caption pasted to the verso.
