Several of the canoes are also flying American flags of various designs. A crowd is seated in chairs along the bank on the left, while the seats are mostly empty on the opposite side of the canal. A group of men stand and sit beneath the band stand's canopy on the bridge. In the background figures are gathered atop another bridge further along the canal. "About 1918," is handwritten on the verso.
