Caption on verso reads: 6. Various mixes of carborundum and clay which were originally dense cylinders, and which have oxidized and crumbled. These sets of test pieces were placed in the clay chambers down in the cooler parts of the kiln, and were the same size and composition as the cylinders shown in No. 4.
