Print. Black and white photographic print of a window display featuring ladies fashions and home furnishings available at The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. Two female mannequins stand in the center of a living room display, the two ladies are wearing knee-length dresses with belted waists; the mannequin on the right is holding a fur wrap in her left hand. Furniture displayed in the window includes an upholstered sofa and chair, an end and coffee tables, and a secretary. Draperies are featured surrounding the window. Signage placed in the upholstered chair reads, "Backgrounds of Fashion, Four O'clock, A modern living room with a touch of formality and an air of hospitality." Also, smaller signage in the lower left corner foreground reads, "These decorative window presentations were created to demonstrate the facilities of Hudson's Studio of Interior Decoration… Each was conceived from a harmonious background for the fashionable new wearing apparel shown - but each was also conceived as a room, its decorative treatment completely planned and visualized. Each window represents only a portion of its planning room setting. The completed floor plans for the 14 rooms partially visualized here are now on display in our eighth floor decorating studios.
