Print, Photographic
Mounted, sepia-toned photograph taken of the Farrand, Williams and Company building on the west corner of East Larned Street and Bates Street, as viewed from the southwest side of Larned, facing northeast. A large painted advertisement is partially visible on the southwest face of the building, "Farrand, Williams And Company Drugs, Chemicals, Pharmaceutical Preparations, Proprietary Medicines, Druggists' Sundries, Sponges, Corks, Dyes, Glass-Ware, Window Glass, Paints, Oils, Varnishes, Brushes." In the foreground Larned is filled with mud and puddles. In the distance, the arched signs for Schulenberg Billiard Tables are visible atop their building. A tall wooden pole stands on the immediate right along a row of hitching posts. At the lower left corner of the frame, a horse is beside a pile of barrels along the side of the Farrand, Williams And Company building, and part of the sign for the Tunis Printing Company is visible.
The photo is mounted on a card dembossed with the name of photographer [John Jex] Bardwell at the lower right corner.
A pair of handwritten notes are on the card's verso, "1870-80's," and "(11-17 Larned - Probably c. 1872 when Farrand & Williams Moved there)."
