Print, Photographic

One black and white reproduction photograph of a section of Plymouth Road in Wayne County, Michigan. The photo shows a view along a flat section of gravel road and a steam shovel which appears to be doing some excavation work along the right side of the road. The excavated earth is being loaded onto horse-drawn wagons for removal. One driver is stopped on the left side of the road while the shovel is loading earth into the wagon. Another driver with an empty wagon is waiting in the center background area of the photo. Overhead wires are running along a utility pole line on the left side of the road and a large 2-story wood frame house can be seen in the left background. A workman, trees, and farm fields can be seen in the right background. White painted text on the sides of the steam shovel reads "The Osgood Co., Marion, Ohio." and "Board of County Road Commissioners, Wayne County, 1372." A white label in the lower right corner has black typewritten text that reads "Board of Wayne County Commissioners, Plymouth Road W. of P.M.R.R. [Pere Marquette Railroad]. No. 2, Date: 4-16-24." A black ink stamp on the verso reads "0817, 256, Wayne Historical Museum, 1 Town Square, Hours 1-4 p.m., Fri & Sat, (734) 722-0113."
