One sepia-toned photograph of the first international tugboat race on the Detroit River. The center area of the photo shows three tugboats downbound on the river in fair weather. The vessels are identified as follows (left to right): OREGON of the Great Lakes Towing Company, JOHN ROEN III of the Roen Steamship Company, and ATOMIC of McQueen Marine, Ltd. The race was won by the ATOMIC. Many spectators are standing along the American shoreline in the foreground and various spectator vessels can be seen on the river in the foreground and background. The Ambassador Bridge and Windsor, Ontario, shoreline can be seen in the background. An adhesive label with typewritten text on the verso reads "Boats - Races - Tugboats, Won by Atomic (R.C.), 5-20-50." An adjacent blue ink stamp reads "Photograph by The Detroit News, Not to Be Published."
