One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The photo shows the end of a steel pipeline that is resting on a floating cradle in preparation for pulling into Lake Michigan. A large steel float has also been attached to the top of the pipeline. A small barge is located in front of the pair of white floats. Several workmen are standing on a small dock at the right side of the photo. A crane barge is standing by offshore beyond the ends of two rip rap breakwaters and Lake Michigan can be seen in the far background. A black ink stamp on the verso reads "Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. Photo." The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan, at Pointe La Barbe.
