One black and white photograph of construction work that is underway for the new Civic Center redevelopment project near Ford Auditorium in downtown Detroit. The view looks southward and shows a large area of excavation in the foreground along with a pile driver that is being operated by a steam boiler and engine (manufactured by Murray Iron Works Company of Burlington, Iowa). Pipe sections, equipment, construction debris, and workmen can be seen in the surrounding project area. Commercial buildings can be seen in the left background including the Robin Hood Flour factory. The Detroit River, Windsor shoreline, and east end of Ford Auditorium can be seen in the right background.
