Black and white photographic print depicting the baghouse at the Specialty Foundry in the Ford River Rouge Complex. In the road is a tractor.
Caption reads: One of the world's newest, largest and most advanced dry dust-collecting systems has been installed in the giant "bag house" (background) at Ford Motor Company's Dearborn (Mich.) Specialty Foundry.
Five 15-foot-high suction fans pull air from seven production areas through a network of ducts to the 100-foot-high bag house. After being filtered through the bags, the purified air travels up a 150-foot-high stack into the atmosphere. The collected dust does into hoppers, where it is mixed with water and hauled by truck to land-fill locations. The new system significantly improves air quality both inside and outside the foundry.
