Photograph. Black and white photo showing two U. S. Coast Guard divers who are standing on the deck of a barge and two workmen who are standing behind them. The divers dove on the wreck of the SIDNEY SMITH in order to open engine room valves so that Marine Pollution Control could pump out oil from the ship. (The SIDNEY SMITH, a sand and gravel carrier, struck another ship in June, 1972, and capsized in the St. Clair River below the Blue Water Bridge.) A portion of the Blue Water Bridge can be seen in the top background area of the photo.
