Photograph. Black and white photo showing the wreck of the SIDNEY SMITH, a sand and gravel carrier, that struck another ship in June, 1972, and capsized in the St. Clair River below the Blue Water Bridge. Marine Pollution Control removed 49,000 gallons of oil from the ship using a steam-operated pump. Steam from the pump can be seen on top of the wreck. A tugboat and crane can be seen in the left background area of the photo.
