One black and white photograph of scientists, Stanford R. Ovshinsky and his wife, Iris. Both are dressed in white laboratory coats and are looking at a microscope that is resting on a table in front of them. A typewritten article on the verso reads:

Teamwork - S. R. (Stan) Ovshinsky, inventor of the unique new 'Quantrol' solid state A.C. switching device recently licenced to Electronic Machine Control, Ltd., of Surrey, has little need to explain his work, late hours, or whereabouts on the home front. Reason: His wife, Iris, is vice president of his company - Energy Conversion Laboratories, Inc., of Detroit - director of research, and his most competent collaborator in the fields of electrochemistry, solid state and quantum physics, bionics, biochemistry, and neurophysiology.
Stan's first notable invention, a high speed automatic metal cutting machine, was developed in 1946. Called the 'Center-Drive,' it is still being produced by the New Britain Machine Co., New Britain, Conn. As director of research for the Hupp Corporation, Detroit (1952-1955), he developed such products as automatic tracking and control systems for military vehicles, an electric power steering unit, automatic transmissions, etc. Since founding his own company, his patented inventions include multiple ball relays, ion and electrostatic motors and propulsion devices, electromechanical switches, moisture and temperature sensing devices, and various other industrial control components.
Iris M. Ovshinsky is a graduate of Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pa. (B.A. Zoology) She took her Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of Michigan, and received her Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry from Boston University for her work as research associate at Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, Shrewsbury, Mass.
