One black and white photograph (and one copy) of the Detroit Zoo expansion groundbreaking ceremony which took place on September 30, 1985. The photo show five adults and four children who are helping to turn over a small amount of earth in a lawn area. Large trees are visible in the background and a group of spectators can be seen at the left. The names of the groundbreaking participants are (left to right): William Marshall; Detroit Zoo Director, Steve Graham; Colin Zyskowski from the Burton School in Huntington Woods; Robert Roselle, Zoo Committee chairman; Jovan Watts from the Bates School in Detroit; Robert Mitchell; Detroit Mayor Coleman Young; and Randy Mickhail from the Franklin School in Royal Oak. Handwritten text on the verso reads "Sept. 30, 1985, Monday, Field trip with Mr. Podgeny, 4th class."
