One sepia-toned photograph of the entertainer chimpanzee, Joe Mendi II, at the Detroit Common Council. Detroit City Councilman, Richard Lindsay, is seated at the left and Joe Mendi is seated at the right as they give each other a friendly stare. (The chimpanzee was purchased for the Detroit Zoo by the Zoo Director in 1932. "Joe Mendi" was a popular attraction at the Zoo and lived there until his death on September 8, 1934.)
