Digital scan of a sepia-toned photo of the excavation dug along Randolph Street, and the beams buttressing the west walls of the neighboring buildings along the east side of Randolph, between Franklin Street and Atwater Street, as taken from the northwest. Signs for United Trucking Service and H. and G. Cartage are painted on the building on the north end of the block. Riverside Lunch is on the south corner of the block. A group of men lean against the barrier along the east side of the street. The boom of a crane hangs over the top right corner of the frame. "Detroit and Canada Tunnel Contract - Section 5; Shoring for 216 Randolph Street - from Northwest. Aug 1, 1929, 8B-120," was handwritten on the verso.
