Radio Receiver

Westinghouse RC Receiver - single wooden cabinet containing a Receiving Tuner (Type RA) and a Detector Amplifier (Type DA). Section of top panel above the amplifier is hinged for access to three radio tubes. The tubes are missing. First sold about the time of the first commercial radio broadcasts in late 1921, Westinghouse advertised this unit as "... efficient for telegraph and telephone reception over the amateur and normal ship wave length ranges." It would have been matched with external antenna, crystal detector, and headphones or a speaker. It was designed as an affordable receiver that could be used by technically unsophisticated listeners.
