Bank, Toy

One toy bank from the "Bank of the Commonwealth." The circular-shaped bank has a rectangular base and is made of cast metal (possibly zinc or antimony) that has a gold-colored finish. The front and back sides of the circular portion have identical raised images in a classical Roman style that depict a family of four who are holding a cornucopia of farm produce. City buildings can be seen in the lower background. Stamped text along the perimeter reads "Bank of the Commonwealth" Stamped text on the base reads "Terra, Labor, Economia," and "Detroit Michigan." A raised design of wheat heads is shown along the top and side edges of the bank. The base underside has a removable steel plate that has a coin slot and a small lock with a key.
