U-Matic

Old Det. Video & Det. Windsor Ferry

U-Matic S tape containing a transfer of film footage shot in downtown Detroit and of the Detroit and Windsor Ferries along the riverfront. The tape contains a mirror image of the original film.

The first shot is a a pan up the Barlum Hotel as shot from Cadillac Square to the southeast. This is followed by a northward facing view along East Congress Street as shot from an elevated position east of Randolph Street. The Reid Building, the First National Building, and the Guardian Building are all in view. In the new shot, presumably shot from J.L. Hudson Company department store, the camera pans from a shot of the skyline and rooftops to the southwest--including the Dime Building and the Penobscot--down to pedestrians walking along Merchants Row on the west side of Woodward Avenue between Grand River Avenue and State Street. In the following shot, the camera points northwest along Fort Street from the left side of the street between Shelby Street and Washington Boulevard. Portions of the Penobscot, the First National Building, the Barlum Hotel, the Dime Building, and the Federal Building and Post Office are in view. The Federal Building and Post Office is the subject of the following shot, as the camera pans up the building's tower from the center of Fort Street to the southwest. This is followed by two more brief shots along Fort Street west from Washington Boulevard. The following shot is from the southeast corner of Washington Boulevard and Michigan Avenue, taken facing to the east. The Book-Cadillac Hotel, the People's Outfitting Company Building, the Majestic Building, and the Barlum Hotel are among the structures visible here. Three brief shots of sidewalks crowded with people follow.

The final shots on the tape are the Detroit and Windsor Ferry Company ferry CADILLAC, on the water, at dock, and then disembarking as shot from the docks. There is also a brief shot of a dock worker moving a board.

The video is on a Kodak ESB-950 U-Matic S tape with a handwritten masking tape label affixed over a previous Kodak label on its top.
