U-Matic
Latin American Festival w/ Dancers
7/28/89
U-Matic tape containing footage from the Latin American Festival in Hart Plaza, dated July 28, 1989. The tape opens with audio of a man accepting an award over a test pattern. It then cuts to footage of a man speaking Spanish behind a podium in Hart Plaza's northwest amphitheater. The camera captures members of the crowd as several other speakers take the podium, the majority also speaking Spanish. Two women in gowns, crowns, and sashes are seated on the stage, possibly from the Miss Latina USA pageant. One speaker mentions the Director of Hispanic Affairs of New Detroit Incorporated. Several shots are of a souvenir shop in the underground area adjacent to the amphitheater. Amongst its wares are straw cowboy hats and God's eyes. Then two women in folk costume are filmed dancing in the amphitheater area. Following several more shots of the crowd, the tape ends after a close-up of a Latin American Festival t-shirt worn by one of the cooks in the underground concessions area.
The video is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed within a black plastic latching clamshell case with a handwritten 3M label on the cover.
