Fox Theatre, State, Masonic
Night Shots
4-19-90

U-Matic S tape containing silent b-roll shot for the video "'E.T. Tourist' The Visit," produced by the City of Detroit's Department of Public Information for Media Day 1990. The footage features activity outside of the Fox Theatre prior to a concert, and nighttime shots of its marquee, the Elwood Grill's neon, the State Theatre's marquee, and the sign outside of the Masonic Temple.

The tape opens with footage shot of the Woodward Avenue entrance to the Fox Theatre, as people enter for a Frank Sinatra concert. The marquee is illuminated. Among the traffic on Woodward Avenue are several limousines, a charter bus, and a bus patterned after a streetcar. Attendants are filmed helping people exit the limousines as they arrive. A poster near the theater's entrance promotes an upcoming Muppet Babies live show.

After a cut the camera gets additional shots of the marquee's lights, as the sun has further set.

The camera also gets close-ups and zoom of the of the neon signs on the exterior of the Elwood Grill. The marquee of the State Theatre/Club Land is also filmed. It promotes the rock opera "Earth Day" on April 22, a Dianne Reeves concert on April 27, and Ballroom Dancing.

The recording ends with several shots of the exterior of the Masonic Temple, and its sign. The sign promotes a series of the Michigan Opera Theatre-sponsored performances by Don Giovanni, on April 21st, 25th, and 28th.

The recording is on a 3M UCA 30S U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top, marked "Fox Theatre, State, Masonic, Night Shots, 4-19-90." The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a matching label on its cover.
