U-Matic

Country Hoe Down Festival #2

U-Matic S tape containing footage of the 6th Annual Budweiser Downtown Hoedown in Hart Plaza, shot on May 6, 1988. The tape features footage of attendees, as well as several routines performed by a line dancing group on the amphitheater's stage. The recording is continued from 2015.008.213.

The tape begins with two brief clips of audience members dancing the same band featured in tape 2015.008.213. The first song heard is a cover of ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man." Next, the 106.7 WWWW-FM disc jockey takes the stage to urge the audience to buy souvenir programs. He explains that the proceeds benefit the City of Detroit's Parks and Recreation Department. While he speaks, the camera pans up to show a band setting up on the stage overlooking the amphitheater.

The line dancing show begins with a boy and girl dancing while holding a "Country Pride" banner. A group of women. Then take the stage and begin dancing behind them. Another routine follows featuring just a man and woman dancing together. Then the group of women do a routine utilizing tap shoes to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll." The audio cuts out, yet the video continues for several more routines.

The tape ends with shots of the crowd, a zoom from Windsor's riverfront in to the Dodge Fountain, the Renaissance Center, and a balloon-shaped Budweiser decoration.

The recording is on a 3M UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top, marked "Country Hoe Down #2." The tape is housed within a black plastic latching case with a matching label on its cover, marked "Country Hoe Down Festival #2."
