Tape 179

U-Matic S tape containing footage shot at the 22nd Annual Christmas Carnival at Cobo Hall. The footage includes shots of the displays, a speech given by Mayor Coleman A. Young, and of choirs performing.

The video opens with a pan around the carnival while children can be heard talking to Santa in the background. Mayor Young and the Atari 5200 are among the topics discussed by Santa and a child. The camera eventually arrives at Mayor Young who is positioned beside Santa. A man approaches Young for a brief interview although much of the exchange is not audible.

The tape then cuts, and returns with a shot of a choir performing on a stage. They are followed by Joyce Garret, who speaks briefly as an introduction for Mayor Coleman A. Young. Young then takes the podium to briefly address the audience. The recording cuts again, then another choir is shown performing. As the choirs continue to perform, the camera captures shots of the carnival's displays. Humpty Dumpty sittings atop a castle wall, Santa Claus in a biplane, and animated caroler figures around a large elephant are each shown.

The video is on an 18-minute U-Matic S tape with a handwritten City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production label on its top. The tape is housed within a latching black plastic case with a matching label on its cover.
