Pelham's who received a Brothership Award "for his sensitive and dynamic leadership in helping to create a true sense of community among citizens of many different racial, religious and social backgrounds who share the challenges and opportunities of metropolitan Detroit. For his insight and guidance in our responses to complex financial, educational and civic problems which affect the welfare of all in our city, state and nation. By these, he has moved us forward in our efforts to achieve the brotherhood concept of dignity and justice for all."
