THE SOO LOCKS

One postcard entitled "The Soo Locks". The postcard shows a color photographic image of the National Steel Corporation freighter ERNEST T. WEIR entering the Soo Locks. A caption on the verso reads:

The difference between Lake Superior and Lake Huron levels (depending on the stages of the lakes) varies from 18 to 24 feet. It takes about 10 to 13 minutes to lower a boat 20 feet and during the process about 16 million gallons of water will have poured out at the foot of the locks.
