Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned photo of an engraving by L. Wright of New York showing the Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad locomotive Adrian No. 1, the state's first locomotive entering service in 1837, pulling a passenger car. A man in the foreground takes a break from chopping wood to wave to the train, as other figures wave in the background form a horse-drawn cart, and a log cabin. The photo is on a Cassey and Whitney of Lansing, Michigan card. "The first passenger train in Mich. Erie Kalamazoo Ra. 1835[sic]," is handwritten along the edge of the card beneath the image. "Compliments of W.C. Ransom, Dep. Commissioner of Railroads, Michigan," is stamped and "C.N.O. Rice," is handwritten on the verso.
