Sue Marx Original for Xfer by Young & Rubicam
Silent 16mm color workprint from the Sue Marx production, "This Is My Home, This Is Detroit," containing footage of musicians playing at the Clement Kern Gardens construction site, aerial footage, a North Rosedale Park children's soccer game, and of Eastern Market.
The first segment contains footage, dated October 25, 1985, partially duplicated from 2015.007.009 of the clarinet player Larry Lamb and trumpet player Herbie Williams at the Clement Kern Gardens construction site in Corktown plus some of construction workers, and of the film crew.
After a brief shot of Chene Park prior to the construction of the large amphitheater, presumably taken from a stationary position in one of the Lafayette Park high rises, are brief shots taken from a helicopter lifting off from an airport. A series of aerial shots follow beginning with the east side of Belle Isle with downtown in the background, and a freighter passing. Next is a flyover off the West Village area from the vicinity of Agnes Street and Parker Street northwest toward Field Street and St. Paul Street. St. Charles Church is visible during the fly over, as are residences along Van Dyke Street, Shipherd Street, Seyburn Street, and Baldwin Street. Shots are also included of the Detroit Boat Club on Belle Isle, construction on the MacArthur Bridge, the Uniroyal Plant's demolition, Chene Park and the Medusa Cement silos, the I-375/I-75 interchange and the future site of Brewery Park, the Ambassador Bridge, the Renaissance Center, Lafayette Park, downtown from east of Cadillac Square, and Eastern Market.
The next segment is the sequence shot from ground level following the ball in the North Rosedale Park Community House children's soccer game from 2015.007.008. The clapboard in this segment is dated September 28, 1985.
Afterward is a quick pan across the awning signs on businesses on the east side of Russell Street between Winder Street and the Fisher Freeway Service Drive--Johnny Mac's Cookie Factory, the Russell Provision Company, Gabriel Importing Company, Mr. Pickles Eastern Market Deli, and Zef's Coney Island.
The last segment is again from the North Rosedale Park soccer game, this time featuring families seated and younger children playing in the park prior to the game, as well as footage of the game shot from behind the goal.
