Eady
Dinner/Awards

Digital video transferred from a MiniDV tape containing both the raw footage and edited versions of Awards Dinner held on April 11, 2003 at Marygrove College, in conjunction with Cornelius Eady's appearance in the Contemporary American Authors Lecture series.

The tape begins with the unedited footage and a pan around the dinning room as people eat and converse before the program. Following a brief clip where the camera operator is adjusting the camera, the Awards Dinner program begins with an introduction from Dr. Glenda Price, Marygrove's president. The event's co-chair, S. Martin Taylor of DTE, next addresses the audience. Dr. Price then announces that Lillian and Donald Bauder have sponsored an endowment to fund the program. The Bauders then address the crowd. In his speech, Donald Bauder references the Iraq War. Next, Dr. Price calls Dr. Frank Rashid to the podium, where he announces the winners of the McCombs-Currier Writing Awards. Amy S. McCombs addresses the crowd next about the writing award program's history. After the ceremony, Dr. Price returns to the podium to recognize Dr. Mary Helen Washington. Next, Cornelius Eady, briefly addresses the audience in advance of his reading later that evening. This portion of the recording ends with some concluding words from Dr. Price.

A very brief clip follows of Dr. Rashid at the podium from the reading portion of the night's programming.

An edited version of the Awards Dinner footage from earlier in the tape follows. This is identical to the material earlier on the tape but with the addition of a title and credit sequence, music at the beginning and end, lower thirds identifying each of the speakers, and minor edits.
