Detroit 1972

Large format 32 page booklet published as part of Detroit's 1972 Summer Olympic bid. The book is written in both English and French, and is arranged in two sections. The first is entitled "Detroit's Reply," and contains answers to questions to questions concerning the city's ability and suitability to host the games posed in a brochure from the International Olympic Committee, concerning a fine arts program, the date of the games, governing bodies, a map of sports facilities, laws that might complicate the games, the Olympic Village, finances, climate, visitor accommodations, and previous international events in the city.
The second section is entitled, "Detroit's Facilities," and contains information, maps, photographs, and illustrations of the city's sports facilities, both existing and proposed including a main stadium to be built on the State Fair Grounds, Cobo Hall and Convention Arena, the Light Guard Armory, Olympia Stadium, Brodhead Armory, the University of Detroit Stadium and Field House, a proposed rowing and canoeing facility either on Belle Isle or along Lake St. Clair, Brennan Pools, the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club, the proposed Olympic Village in Wayne State University, a proposed velodrome on the Michigan State Fair Grounds, and a proposed shooting range located at one of four unnamed locations. Several photos showing off other facilities in the city including Jam Handy Organization's studios, WXYZ's control room during a showing of the Johnny Ginger Show, Wayne State's McGregor Memorial Conference Center, a bus station, a cafeteria, and a group of switchboard operators are included inside the back cover.
