Small ledger book, bound in a dark brown leather, used by Martin Cooney, the Superintendent of Horses for the Detroit Fire Department to record the purchase of horses, spanning November 23, 1882 to January 23, 1914. The book was manufactured by the Gregory, Mayer and Thom Company of Detroit, and it contains the pre-printed column headers, "date," "color," "sex," "age," "weight," "price," "bought of," and "how disposed of." A small scrap of paper was found inside the book, printed with:
