Join the Detroit Historical Society’s Education Coordinator Cate Waldecker for a presentation on the long history of Indigenous land stewardship on the island and how those practices were transformed with the arrival of Europeans. The program will explore how Native peoples lived in relationship with the land and water, the cultural and spiritual importance of the island, and the ways that colonization disrupted traditional ways of life. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of both the resilience of Indigenous communities and the lasting impact of European settlement on the region.
