Join Director of Collections and Curatorial Jeremy Dimick for a lecture featuring artifacts from one of the museum’s most fascinating—but often under-displayed—collection groups - historic flags. The flags showcased will include a recently restored artifact from the First Michigan Cavalry, a Civil War unit largely composed of Detroit soldiers, as well as a range of unusual U.S. flags with nonstandard star counts that reflect specific and lesser-known moments in American history. Among the highlights is a rare 13-star U.S. flag dating to the 1790s, along with an extraordinary 23-foot-long 1934 Detroit Tigers American League pennant, offering a striking look at both national symbolism and local sports heritage.
Please note! The Detroit Historical Museum is CLOSED on Saturday, May 2 for a private event.
