On the night of December 26, 1913, the old Michigan Central Railroad Depot at Fort and Third Street was devastated by fire, forcing the new Michigan Central Railroad Depot and Hotel near Michigan Avenue and 14th Street to open a day ahead of schedule. In the 113 years since, the station has experienced an extraordinary journey of service, decline, abandonment, and remarkable rebirth.
