D67 Connect to Our Partners

There are an infinite number of ways for individuals and organizations to get involved in the Detroit 67 Project. Whether you are already planning your own programs and events, or are looking for ways to get involved in new projects, let us know.

Below are a few examples of ways you can get involved, but the list is by no means complete.

Museum, arts, or cultural organizations

  • Serve as a satellite collection center for the oral history project.
  • Share your 1967 related archives and collections with the project for use in the exhibit, publications and website.
  • Develop a companion exhibition or program on a 1967 topic that matches your mission and let us publicize it.

Community organization, like churches or community centers

  • Serve as a satellite collection center for the oral history project.
  • Develop a companion program on a 1967 topic that relates to your mission and let us publicize it.

Social service, social justice and/or advocacy groups

  • Host symposiums, speakers, workshops and/or community conversations on the events of 1967 and their lasting impact on the issues related to your mission.
  • Host symposiums, speakers, workshops and/or community conversations about racial equality, gentrification, economic disparity, and demographic change taking place in Detroit and throughout the country today.

K-12 educational institutions or organizations

  • Partner on the development of programs and curriculum that help middle and high school students explore multiple perspectives in history through the lens of 1967.

Colleges or Universities

  • Create project programs, including scholarly symposiums and speaker series, performances, exhibitions, etc. related to 1967 and its legacy.
  • Encourage students to volunteer as project interns.

Senior centers or residential communities

  • Organize an oral history day on which the Society staff can interview residents or members.

Businesses

  • Sponsor a program or the exhibition.
  • Provide in-kind help, such as multimedia production, app development, website design, exhibition fabrication, marketing expertise, and on.

Individuals

  • Tell your or your family’s story of life in 1967.
  • Train to collect oral histories from your friends, family and community for the project
